Introduction to Cross-cultural Communication

About this course:
Introduction to Cross-cultural Communication aims to enhance your understanding of interactions between people of different cultures. In the first three units of the course, you will learn about a well-known cross-cultural theory and how it is relevant to cross-cultural communication. You will also explore two key topics in cross-cultural communication: stereotypes and education in cross-cultural contexts. Each unit consists of a video lecture, checkpoint quizzes, discussion activities, and learning resources. After completing the course, you will be able to:  
  • explain the theory and issues in both speaking and written forms;
  • understand and analyze cultural differences;
  • identify potential misunderstandings or conflicts in cross-cultural situations;
  • develop strategies to cope with cross-cultural misunderstandings or conflicts;
  • gain a better understanding of your own culture.
 
Course level: Freshman
Commitment: 3 weeks of study, 4-6 hours/week
